The development and application of the WorldView Three-dimensional Mapping Module


1. Introduction of WorldView

On September 18th 2007, the Boeing Company launched WorldView satellites for Digitalglobe Company by using Delta-2 Rocket.

WorldView is a commercial imaging satellite with the highest resolution and the quickest response at present. It runs in the sun-synchronous orbit at the height of 450 km, 
with the inclination of 98 degree and the cycle of 93.4 minus. The average re-visit cycle is 1.7 days. It is loaded with large-capacity panchromatic imaging system, which can 
capture picture in 500 square meters with the revolution of 0.5 meter in one day. With the modern GPS accuracy and the quick response technology, the satellite is able to 
capture target object swiftly and form three dimensional image within the same orbit efficiently.

With the stereopairs provided by WorldView Satellite, the data of the ground resolution would reach 0.5 to 0.75 meter. WorldView satellite can obtain the highest resolution 
commercial three-dimensional image of the satellite remote sensing. When these data are used in three dimensional mapping, it just needs a few ground control points 
and relevant RPC parameters, then the image accuracy will reach 1 to 2 pixels. Therefore, WorldView three dimensional stereopairs can meet the acquisition of 1:10000 
scale and 1:5000 scale mapping.


2. WorldView Three-dimensional mapping

As the three-dimensional data acquired by the WorldView remote sensing satellite can be sold in pubic, our company immediately begins to study the three-dimensional 
mapping of the WorldView image data and application software. After the recent completion of the test data verification, our company has become the only supplier who can 
provide photogrammetric system products range from block adjustment to surveying production in China, such as DLG, DEM, and DOM.

This system processes the three dimensional image data, which has three JX-4 Series module—JXSAT WorldView block adjustment calculation module, JX4C WorldView 
three dimensional mapping module, JX4G WorldView three dimensional mapping module.

It uses JXSAT WorldView block adjustment calculation module, and can reach the accuracy of 1 to 2 pixels with only few control points and relevant image module parameters,
and the processing data is not restricted. It also can be used in large area imaging work.

JX4C and JX4G WorldView Three Dimensional Mapping Module inherit the advantages of the JX4 Photogrammetric Workstation in function, operation and processing. The 
mode of work and photogrammetry are similar, and the basic mapping step of the IKONOS, SPOT5 three-dimensional mapping is pretty same.

1. ΔX、ΔY、ΔZ refers to the error of the control point in ground ordinate. The unit is meter. The sequence are north, east, and height. 
2.  ΔColL、ΔRowL、ΔColR、ΔRowR is the image point error. The unit is pixel. The sequence are left column, left row, right column, and right row.
